Personal Statement: Throughout life, I have learned two extremely important things. In order to grow, you must be able to adapt to circumstances and push yourself to experience more. College is a time to individually flourish and learn. Upon arriving to Emory & Henry College, I felt that I knew exactly what was in store for me here; an education, relationships with friends and life lessons. I did not, however, know what those life lessons would be.
As a TCK (Third-Culture Kid,) I had no choice but to conform to the environment I was living in. Overtime, I was simply able to be comfortable in a setting, no matter how much I felt I was being pushed. Moving 14 times in 21 years was not easy, but it taught me such valuable lessons. The everyday student struggles with time management, social settings, and the unfamiliarity of being away from home. Throughout the year, I have been an Resident Advisor to international students and residential students. These students are challenged by cultural differences and a new way of life. I was inspired to be an advocate for this community. I thrive in helping them walk this path, through the good and bad times. It overwhelms me with joy that I get to watch my residents grow. They are continually becoming more independent, passionate and encouraging to others.
The Head Resident Advisor position speaks to my qualities and how I can benefit others in a positive way. I am confident that with my creative mind and empathetic soul, that I would be successful in this position. I am eager to develop my skills for students and to be a supporter for them always.
